Spaces of Possibility (futuring heritage) looks into how art and architecture can create new possibilities for dealing with current and future challenges, especially within the context of Bruges, a Unesco-World Heritage site.
How to deal with transformation and degrowth in a city whose boundaries have been shaped by its medieval history? How to question dominant histories, use underutilized public spaces and explore new human-more-than human cohabitations in the city?
The publication is an invitation to urban theorists, curators, artists and architects to use Bruges as a testbed for new spatial imaginaries. It is published on the occasion of the 4th Bruges Triennial: Spaces of Possibility, curated by Shendy Gardin and Sevie Tsampalla (13 April – 1 September 2024). Featuring contributions by the twelve artists and architects in the exhibition, it offers insights into the research processes behind the commissions, through preparatory sketches, renders, interviews and archival images.
